PROMOTING GREEN DESERT TOURISM
Are you a camper or tourism operator? Egypt’s White Desert National Park sees thousands of overnight campers a year. Additionally, White Desert safaris are an important income source for residents of Bahariya and Farafra Oases. Unfortunately, such trips leave their traces in the desert ecosystem. The park sees littering, people drawing on its world-famous limestone formations, and visitors harming flora and fauna.
Funded by the US Forest Service International Programs, GEBAL has approached the issue through art – so that nothing gets lost in translation! Our 2-page comic conveys key messages for a green and eco-friendly desert safari through colourful drawings. Simply browse and understand.
GEBAL has placed the comic, in the shape of a laminated flyer, in hundreds of safari cars. Hotels in Bahariya and Farafra, as well as local cafeterias and the El Heiz Water Education Center have also put the comic on display. Visitors can skim the information cards at their hotel or in the seat pocket of their jeep.
